Pony Express Day

PONY EXPRESS DAY (Thursday, June 11th)

ALL-DAY: PONY EXPRESS TRIP (by vehicle, not horse)
9am – 7pm.  Meet at 9am sharp, at “660 Pioneer Crossing.” (Directions:  Go South on I-15 to American Fork.  Take the Saratoga Springs exit (exit 278).  Turn right onto Pioneer Crossing.  Take 1st right onto “N 80” street.  Then take the 1st right into the commuter parking lot (which is: 660 Pioneer Crossing.)

This is an ALL-DAY, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel the Pony Express Trail with fellow descendants. Historians will give presentations along the way.

REQUIREMENTS: (1) Please sign-up by June 1st 2015; (2) rent or have a SUV or sturdy vehicle that can handle dirt roads; (3) carry enough gas for the trip.
SUGGESTIONS: Bring your own lunch, lots of water, entertainment for kids, camera, toilet paper (few toilets) and the new Howard Egan Biography book.

An Egan historian will share details and stories as we trek along the following route:

  • Pony Express Blvd in Eagle Mountain.
  • Highway 73 to Camp Floyd & Stagecoach Inn.
  • Highway 73 to Five Mile Pass, divert SW toward Faust.
  • Follow Pony Express Trail, stop at several monuments along the way.
  • Then Callao to Ibapah (aka “Deep Creek.”) Howard’s main location in 1860s.
  • Reach Nevada, go south on 93A and 93.
  • West to Cherry Creek (semi-ghost town.) Go thru Egan Canyon. See Egan mountains.
  • Return 93 N to Wendover, then I-80 back to Salt Lake City.
