BYU Redd Center Co-Hosted Event

.

BYU’s Charles Redd Center for Western Studies joined the Major Howard Egan Foundation in co-sponsoring the Jubilee Celebration of the birth of Major Howard Egan on June 11th 12th and 13th of 2015.

The Charles Redd Center was created in 1972 when several history professors proposed to BYU’s administration the creation of a research center that would promote and enhance western studies on the campus.  Charles and Annaley Redd, redd center prominent southeastern Utah ranchers and philanthropists, donated funds to BYU to fund the chair of Western History and establish a western studies center. Since its establishment, the Charles Redd Center has promoted publications, lectures, classes, and oral history related to the Intermountain/Mountain West.

Our celebration of the 200th birthday of Major Howard Egan was of particular interest to BYU’s Redd Center, and they offered to help organize, promote, and co-host the Symposium Day on his life and the times in which he lived. As a result of their co-sponsorship, they helped create the graphics for the Symposium.  They also organized the call for papers and helped us acquire noted historians and speakers for the event.
